Late Ketumile Masire, the 92-year-old former President of Botswana who died on June 22, will be buried on Thursday, June 29, at his Kanye village home. President Ian Khama, his deputy Mokgweetsi Masisi and several top government officials paid their respect to Masire on Tuesday at the Botswana parliament. Masire died in the evening last Thursday at the Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone after undergoing a surgery. The former Botswana leader is considered the main architect of what has been one of Africa’s most successful economic transitions.He was Botswana’s first vice-president after independence in 1966 before replacing President Seretse Khama in 1980.

Kudzai Juliet Mudema, a former nurse in Gweru who got married to her husband Progress Walusi at Muzimukhulu Gardens in December 2016, was only two months into marriage before she cheated on him. Gunmen have kidnapped a 27-year-old businessman, Alhaji Abubakar Kakirko, in his Kakirko Village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Mr Babangida Abdullahi, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), made this known on Tuesday at a news briefing in Sokoto.

Sharing a photo of him cradling his sister/wife's baby bump, he said love cannot be controlled and as such he chose the one he loved even though they are blood relatives.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Tuesday gave its suspended Chairman, Mr Issac Kekemeke, seven days to resign over alleged misconduct. The ultimatum followed the recommendation of by the three-member fact-finding committee headed by Mr Abayomi Adesanya, constituted by the party to investigate crisis in the party in the state. The report of the committee was submitted to the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party in Akure.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, the managing director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited has been released from DSS’s detention after several weeks. Sources said the oil mogul was released yesterday night unconditionally by the Department of State Services after a “No Case” was established, following a tedious investigation by the DSS in his rift with the NNPC.

A mother has been charged to court for stabbing her 4-year-old daughter to death in west Harris County, Houston, Texas. Laquita Lewis, 34, reportedly stabbed little Fredricka Allen several times in the chest and left her in the bedroom to die.

Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services owners of Etisalat Nigeria, has begun changes in shareholding in line with its restructuring measures to redress problem of its huge debt. The change in shareholding was announced to the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange on Tuesday. The Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, dismissed an application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an injunction restraining the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, from operating his accounts in Zenith Bank Plc, describing the application as lacking in merit. The Appeal Court said: “EFCC did not come with clean hands on the application for injunction it filed because it suppressed material facts, for example that a similar application the EFCC filed was earlier refused by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti”.

The Imo Police Command, has declared Mr Chidera Njoku, a native doctor, wanted after recovering 90 rounds of AK47 Rifle and human skull in his shrine. The Commissioner of Police in Imo, Mr Chris Ezike, made this disclosure while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Owerri.

A U.S. Navy fighter jet shot down a Syrian government warplane after it attacked Washington-backed fighters near ISIS’ de facto capital of Raqqa, the U.S.-led coalition has said. At least one person has  died and 10 others were injured when a van drove into a group of worshippers outside a London mosque early Monday in what police are investigating as a potential terrorist incident. London’s Metropolitan Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Eight others were taken to three area hospitals and two were treated at the scene.

Special Adviser to the president on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu, says the presidency does not consider leader of the Indeginous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, as a leader of thought in the South East. Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Ojudu said the consultations currently being carried out by acting president Yemi Osinbajo is strictly with identifiable leaders of thought and at the moment, Kanu is not one of such leaders in the South East. The Federal Government has accused former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki of making N1.2billion transactions in one day  without explaining what the deals were about. Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed told reporters in his Oro hometown in Kwara State that releasing Dasuki and Shi’ite leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky without extracting information from them would have negative impact on national security. He spoke after a Ramadan lecture he organised in the town.

Nurudeen Kazeem, the alleged robbery suspect, who was last week arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command over the shooting of RRS  police officer in LASU – Igando area, has confessed that he honed his shooting skills as a cultist. Nurudeen popularly known as “Onyabo”, 27, a trained tailor turned okada rider, was arrested last week by the Rapid Response Squad Decoy Team in connection with the shooting of an RRS officer investigating chains of robbery cases in LASU – Iba/Igando area.

A shark has attacked a swimmer off the coast of one of the most popular beaches in Ibiza, Spain. The victim was treated for a two-inch gash to his hand after being bitten at Playa d’en Bossa – home to famous clubs like Ushaia and a Brit tourist favourite yesterday afternoon. Other swimmers fled the water following the attack, although the beach was not closed to swimmers. First aiders spent about an hour searching the waters while the local authorities confirmed that a blue shark or a large fish was behind the attack.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that Biafra agitators and the northern youth groups that issued quit notice to Igbo risked jail terms as they violated Nigeria’s laws. Osinbajo gave the warning at a consultative meeting with traditional rulers from the South-East at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja, on Sunday.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said people who loot the public treasury or their organizations are doing so out of greed, and not because of any political objective of keeping a war chest for the future. A huge forest fire raging since Saturday in central Portugal has killed at least 62 people, the government said on Sunday, in what is possibly the deadliest-ever forest blaze in the Atlantic coastal country, used to the woods burning almost every summer. "The dimension of this fire was such that we don't have memory of such a human tragedy," Prime Minister Antonio Costa said as he arrived in Pedrogao Grande, a mountainous area some 200 km northeast of Lisbon.

Britain will act on any recommendations from a probe into a fire that ripped through an apartment block and killed at least 58 people, ministers said, responding to a tragedy their critics said showed something had gone "badly wrong" in the country. Ahead of the 2019 presidential elections, a plan by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar’s men to take control of the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has suffered a setback. Governor Abubakar Bagudu, the Chairman, Presidential Task force on Rice and Wheat Production, has condemned the continuous importation of rice into the country, describing it as importation of poison. Mr. Bagudu, who is also the governor of Kebbi, told journalists on Sunday in Birnin-Kebbi that the imported rice, auctioned by different countries, was no longer good for human consumption.

A man, Justus Obwocha Motiso, has been dragged to court after he reportedly forced his eldest son to have carnal knowledge of his own mother while he watched. The man was remanded by a Kisii court for his own safety, according to SDE Kenya. According to the report, Motiso was accused of committing the offence on June 1 at Bonyagatanyi sub-location in Kisii County.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has lambasted Governor Ayodele Fayose for eyeing the presidency, saying he wants to become Nigeria’s next leader yet he cannot pay workers’ salary. While the United States engages in an ideological civil war about the role of the government in the economy, China has continued to advance its economy under a stable regime, albeit authoritarian. The executive committee of the Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended six members of the party over alleged misconduct. APC chairman in Enugu state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, informed journalists on Sunday that five of the suspended members were investigated, and indicted, for making false allegations against the state executive committee of the party in a petition they forwarded to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
