Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta The ruling All Progressives Congress in Ogun State won all the 57 chairmanship seats in the 2016 local government and local council development areas election held on Saturday in the state. The election was conducted by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission to elect chairmen and councillors into the state 20 LGs and 37 newly created LCDAs. The APC won 346 out of the 349 councillorship seats while the Unity Party of Nigeria won two councillorship seats in Oke Odan ward in the Ifesowapo LCDA and Omu ward in the Leguru LCDA. Ramon Oladimeji A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, says the biggest challenge confronting the electoral body is the reckless mindset of politicians, who believe that winning an election is a do-or-die affair. Through this mindset, Jega said Nigerian politicians had turned the nation’s electoral arena into a bloody battlefield characterised by political thuggery, snatching of ballot boxes and assassinations while creating fear in the minds of voters. A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Bola Ilori has said the National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was the one who instructed them to join the Alliance for Democracy. Edo State Governor-elect, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said no member of the opposition political parties should expect to make his cabinet after his inauguration on November 12. Obaseki, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists, noted that though he could explain the focus and vision of his administration to them, none of them would be appointed in his administration. The incumbent Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, had at the inception of his administration in 2008, appointed three members of the Peoples Democratic Party into his cabinet.
