The Ikoyi house whistleblower, Yakubu Galadima who gave EFCC the information that led to the recovery of $43m, N23.3m and E27,800(N13bn) is yet to be paid his percentage shares of N325m.

Gambia: Barrow Failed the Litmus test

Image
I dreamt of a day when sons and daughters of our land will have freedom of assembly, freedom from intimidation and right to express themselves as guaranteed in our constitution. Until then, we will have a government of the people, by the people and for the people. It’s a shame watching live pictures coming from Westfield (earlier on). Thank God they left early! The pictures reminds me of the bitter days of “UDP struggle.” My office was located in Westfield. I have seen armed men patiently waiting to crush citizens who want to express their rights. Most of our staff were left in tears in one afternoon after witnessing young officers beating mostly elderly and not too young men and women of the UDP party.

A Call for Revolution in Nigeria government

Image
The Nigeria youth must rise up as a matter of urgency and not continue on their slumbering bed and believing in the everyday statement of our   political class “The youth are the leaders of tomorrow”. The same political class that has embezzled the treasury, destabilized our economy to enrich their families and associates with the resources meant to create jobs and social amenities that would have made life worth living for the Nigeria youth. The political class has rather turned our agile, vigorous able youth into miscreants and making them jobless so they can continue to be their political thugs and make them vulnerable in involving in the social inequalities in our society.

Nigeria insists on Africa as centrepiece of policy

Image
Nigeria has restated that Africa remains the centre piece of its foreign policy and has fully engaged and getting more and more engaged with the African Union (AU). Foreign Affairs Minister Geofrey Onyeama stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja recently.

Global cyber attack hits hospitals and companies, threat seen fading for now

Image
A global cyber attack leveraging hacking tools believed to have been developed by the U.S. National Security Agency has infected tens of thousands of computers in nearly 100 countries, disrupting Britain's health system and global shipper FedEx. Cyber extortionists tricked victims into opening malicious malware attachments to spam emails that appeared to contain invoices, job offers, security warnings and other legitimate files. The ransomware encrypted data on the computers, demanding payments of $300 to $600 to restore access. Security researchers said they observed some victims paying via the digital currency bitcoin, though they did not know what percent had given in to the extortionists.

Apostles of Corpsocracy and the ‘return’ of Chibok girls- By Femi Fani-Kayode

Image
They say that nothing is hidden under the sun. In God’s time and by the power of His word and glorious light, all things that were hidden shall be made known and the sun of truth shall shine forth brightly dismantling the web of mendacity and deceit and displacing the cruel darkness. The issue of President Buhari’s health, the enthronement of corpsocracy and the deep conspiracy and growing concerns about the issue of the Chibok girls and the circumstances of their purported release is making waves and generating a high degree of uncertainty, cynicism, skepticism, angst and tension in the country. For example an anonymous contributor who has deep reservations and grave concerns about the narrative that the Federal Government is engendering wrote the following:

Factions Around President Buhari Jostle For Control Of His Medical Story, Spin Different Stories- SaharaReporters

SaharaReporters  learned from reliable sources at the Nigerian Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been in the UK since January 19, is receiving “intense treatment” for a renewed flare-up of prostate issues. He had undergone surgical treatment for prostate cancer soon after losing the 2011 presidential election to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Gambia: Yahya Jammeh’s Financial Carnage

Mr Jammeh’s financial tempest gripped the Gambia in the past days and by the time the storm reaches the shore, we will fully come to know the magnitude of his 22 year rape of our economy.

Gambia: From Pan Africanism to Exile: Ignorance was the recipe for Yahya Jammeh’s failures

Image
Mr. Editor, undoubtedly, former President Jammeh was a newcomer as far as African regional integration was concerned. This was the man that pampered himself as an illustrious son of Africa and at the same as President, he was the most ignorant as far as African development initiatives are concerned.  During his hay days, Yahya Jammeh vehemently criticized the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) initiative and called it “kneepad”.  At the time he openly criticized NEPAD, only the then British Minister of State for Overseas Development and Africa at the Foreign Office, Baroness Linda Chalker, could be equated to his criticism because she believed that the NEPAD initiative will rely heavily on foreign aid to bankroll it off the ground.   What Jammeh did not realize was that there were other African initiatives before NEPAD all aimed at moving the continent on the path to greater economic development. Prior to NEPAD, the Lagos Plan of Actio...

Teacher, Don’t Teach Me Nonsense- Part 1 By Alex Otti

Image
Credit for the title of today’s column is to no other person than the late King of Afrobeat music, the Abami Eda himself, Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, also known as Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Those who are old enough would agree that Fela, who died 20 years ago, was not just a philosopher but a crusader and revolutionist. In this 1980 song, Fela insists that everything one does must have been taught by someone. At birth, the teachers are the parents, and by school age, the teacher is the school teacher while at the university level, the teacher becomes the lecturer. When one gets done with school and begins to work, Fela argues that the teacher becomes the government which can also be called the society. What is taught, according to Fela, is a function of Culture and tradition. Virtually all the countries of the world have got its teaching right based on their culture and tradition except African countries.  He believes that is the reason we have probl...

Gambia: Presidential Memo: SUBJECT: Creation of an Anti-Corruption Agency To Comply With The UN Convention Against Corruption

Image
Presidential Memo To:  His Excellency, Mr. Adama Barrow , President of the Republic. SUBJECT:    Creation of an Anti-Corruption Agency To Comply With The UN Convention Against Corruption Mr. President, We are very much appreciative of your new government’s efforts reaching out to our development partners such as the EU, ADB, and other international development agencies to assist in the development of the new Gambia especially in the aftermath of a massive emptying of the state coffers by the rapacity of a mercurial dictator who ruled the country with rampant greed and corruption. In fact the level of corruption during the 22 years of the worst kleptocrat in modern times made Gambia one of the most corrupt countries worldwide. Gambia is ranked 145 out of 175 countries, according to the 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International. Senegal our neighbor is placed at 64, Ghana 70, Sierra Leone 123 and Jammeh’s adopted country-E...

Gambia’s psychological damage must be healed

Image
Dear Pa M’bai, I’d firstly like to congratulate you on your services and contribution to Gambia News and on the fervent expedition of incite to the recent, political impasse and the reformation of our new government and democracy. I am a British citizen (born and bred) and married to a Gambian. My ties to Gambia far exceed that of my matrimony, but to the extent of tracing my ancestral connection back to the beautiful Gambia. As to be expected being raised in the west, my learned culture somewhat defers that which is inherit. (I am yet to rediscover what it means to be Gambian by culture) However, presently I understand enough to  express my heart, and frill  in the redevelopment of The Gambia. I would like to address your recent article, that which discloses the expense of the state’s residence at the Kairaba Beach Hotel. To suggest that Barrow presidency is becoming ‘high maintenance’ is an unrealistic measure permitted that the events of transiti...

Gambia: For The Attention Of The Concerned Gamtel Staff

Image
FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE CONCERNED GAMTEL STAFF Since you prefer to write about me and kept your identity anonymous, even though I know who you are, I will still prefer to keep your identity anonymous. However, the purpose of this response is to shed light on the lies you untruthfully posted on the Freedom Newspaper in defense of the article I wrote concerning the 11 million dalasi criminal past of Mr. Seedy Jaiteh that landed him in a 11 years jail time. Because you cannot get at me truthfully, you decided to fabricate and twist issues with untruthful intent to score points against me. The objective of this article is to shed light on each of the issues you raised in your article published in the Freedom Online paper as follows: That: Khadijatou Jallow Sarr used to take fuel coupons from HR to go to Basse and back in the name of going for official service. Anonymous Gamtel staff, I was the Director of audit before Mrs. K...
