Activist probing Ivanka Trump shoes arrested

China Labour Watch, a New York-based advocacy group, said on Wednesday that a man has been arrested and two are missing in China after conducting an investigation into a Chinese company making Ivanka Trump-branded shoes. According to Li Qiang, executive director of the group China Labour Watch, labour activist Hua Haifeng was arrested in Jiangxi province on suspicion of illegally using eavesdropping equipment. Li said the three men had been investigating labour conditions at factories that produce shoes for Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, and other Western brands.

A 30-year-old woman missing for nearly two weeks has been found dead in her Eskom office at the Springs power station, South Africa on Monday, May 29th. Lucia Thembisile Yende was last seen on May 17. Her white single cab Toyota Hilux was also found in the parking lot. Her body was found in the office which remained locked since the day she went missing, despite police dogs sniffing the premises.

Kannywood actress, Rabi Ismail who escaped from prison about six years ago after being sentenced to death, has been recaptured. The actress, now 46 years old,  escaped from custody in Hadejia Prisons, Jigawa state, on December 16, 2011, mysteriously, without breaking walls or digging tunnels. Prison officials believed then she was aided by insiders. Francis Enobore, spokesperson for the prisons authorities, confirmed that Ismail was re-arrested through a collaboration between the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) and the State Security Service (SSS).

Somali militants have stoned a man to death after an Islamic court convicted him of adultery. Dayow Mohamed Hassan, 44, was buried neck-deep and pelted to death with stones by al-Shabab fighters. He was convicted of being in an adulterous relationship with a woman and impregnating her, despite having two wives, an official said.

Financial sector loses N2.19bn to fraudsters

The nation’s financial sector lost N2.19 billion to fraudsters in 2016, according to Annual Report of the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF), released in Abuja. According to the report, the actual money lost to fraudsters is slightly less than the N2.256 billion recorded in 2015. Adeleke died of drug overdose, says coroner

The coroner appointed by the Osun State government to investigate the cause of the death of Sen. Isiaka Adeleke, on Monday said his death was caused by drug overdose. The coroner, Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, giving verdict in Osogbo, said the evidence before him in no way pointed to poisoning as the cause of death of the late senator, as alleged in some quarters. “I have critically gone through the evidence before me. Okorocha dismisses cabinet, LG council members

In a surprise move, Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has sacked his cabinet  and members of the 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect. A statement by the Principal Secretary to the governor, Mr Pascal Obi, in Owerri directed all former members of the executive to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries. Apple Music sets to release 'Carpool Karaoke', August 8 as new date

Apple Inc's Apple Music streaming service will release its adaptation of comedian James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" to subscribers beginning on Aug. 8, the company said on its website on Tuesday. The technology giant had previously announced that "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" would be launched in April as part of a move into original video for Apple Music, a $9.99-a-month streaming service. Venezuelan opposition condemns Goldman for $2.8 billion bond deal

Goldman Sachs Group Inc's statement that it never transacted directly with the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro when it bought $2.8 billion of bonds for pennies on the dollar was dismissed by the country's opposition on Tuesday as an effort to "put lipstick on this pig." Goldman, in a statement late Monday confirming the purchase, said its asset-management arm acquired the bonds "on the secondary market from a broker and did not interact with the Venezuelan government." Former House of Reps member loses marriage due to Adultery

A Jos High Court on Tuesday dissolved the marriage between Mr Leonard Dilkon, a former member of the House of Representatives, and his wife, Joy. Justice David Mann of High Court III, dissolved the marriage in his judgment on the petition filed by Joy, seeking an end to the union. “The marriage between these two people has broken down irretrievably. It is hereby dissolved,” Mann declared.

Trump jump starts search for FBI chief with two interviews

President Donald Trump on Tuesday was scheduled to interview two candidates to replace James Comey as head of the FBI, former agency No. 2 James Pistole and former Assistant Attorney General Chris Wray, the White House said. The interviews mark a re-start of sorts for the search to find someone to replace Comey, who Trump fired on May 9. Trump said earlier this month he was "very close" to picking a nominee for the post and he had already met with several candidates.

DSS hand over 82 chibok girls to minister for rehabilitation

Directorate of State Service (DSS) on Tuesday handed over the recently rescued 82 Chibok schoolgirls to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for rehabilitation. The schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 at the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state. The 82 girls were released after the Federal Government agreed to swap them for some members of the terror group.

Opposition sues Zuma and son, others over graft
