China Labour Watch, a New York-based advocacy group, said on Wednesday that a man has been arrested and two are missing in China after conducting an investigation into a Chinese company making Ivanka Trump-branded shoes. According to Li Qiang, executive director of the group China Labour Watch, labour activist Hua Haifeng was arrested in Jiangxi province on suspicion of illegally using eavesdropping equipment. Li said the three men had been investigating labour conditions at factories that produce shoes for Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, and other Western brands.

A Kidnapped Catholic priest who is been held hostage alongside 200 captives, including children, by militants linked to ISIS in the southern Philippine city in Marawa, has appeared in a video pleading for help. The coroner appointed by the Osun State government to investigate the cause of the death of Sen. Isiaka Adeleke, on Monday said his death was caused by drug overdose. The coroner, Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, giving verdict in Osogbo, said the evidence before him in no way pointed to poisoning as the cause of death of the late senator, as alleged in some quarters. “I have critically gone through the evidence before me. Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola yesterday swore in his executive council made up of 22 commissioners and 16 special advisers. On the list of the commissioners are an Associate Professor of Economics, Olalekan Dauda Yinusa; a Doctor of Law, Ajibola Basiru and a former Senator, Mudasiru Hussain. Several police officers are feared to have been killed Tuesday night after suspected officials of the Nigerian Navy stormed a police division in Calabar, southern Nigeria. In a surprise move, Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has sacked his cabinet  and members of the 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect. A statement by the Principal Secretary to the governor, Mr Pascal Obi, in Owerri directed all former members of the executive to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries. Obi quoted the governor as appreciating the invaluable contributions of the affected appointees to the success recorded by his rescue mission administration and wishes them well in their future endeavours.

Apple Inc's Apple Music streaming service will release its adaptation of comedian James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" to subscribers beginning on Aug. 8, the company said on its website on Tuesday. The technology giant had previously announced that "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" would be launched in April as part of a move into original video for Apple Music, a $9.99-a-month streaming service. Goldman Sachs Group Inc's statement that it never transacted directly with the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro when it bought $2.8 billion of bonds for pennies on the dollar was dismissed by the country's opposition on Tuesday as an effort to "put lipstick on this pig." A Jos High Court on Tuesday dissolved the marriage between Mr Leonard Dilkon, a former member of the House of Representatives, and his wife, Joy. Justice David Mann of High Court III, dissolved the marriage in his judgment on the petition filed by Joy, seeking an end to the union. “The marriage between these two people has broken down irretrievably. It is hereby dissolved,” Mann declared.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday was scheduled to interview two candidates to replace James Comey as head of the FBI, former agency No. 2 James Pistole and former Assistant Attorney General Chris Wray, the White House said. The interviews mark a re-start of sorts for the search to find someone to replace Comey, who Trump fired on May 9. Trump said earlier this month he was "very close" to picking a nominee for the post and he had already met with several candidates.

The World Bank on Tuesday called for improved infrastructure for African cities to enable them develop along with their growing populations. Mrs Bella Bird, the World Bank Country Director for Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi and Somalia made the call at the bank’s training workshop for African journalists in Dar-es-Salaam. Bird said that as African cities were growing in population,  there was need to improve their infrastructure to fast track development on the continent.

Directorate of State Service (DSS) on Tuesday handed over the recently rescued 82 Chibok schoolgirls to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for rehabilitation. The schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 at the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state. The 82 girls were released after the Federal Government agreed to swap them for some members of the terror group.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) filed charges against Zuma, his son Duduzane Zuma, the brothers Atul, Ajay and Rajesh Gupta Others are Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba, three other cabinet ministers, two directors of Gupta-linked companies and a former executive of the state electrical utility Eskom.
