Ms Jacob Grace, the suspended Vice President of students union of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has alleged that the Director of Socials, Afolabi Adedayo Emmanuel, battered her during an executive council meeting and she stabbed him in self defence. Recall that on the night of September 5, the two students’ union exco members were seriously injured following a fight over the disbursement of N3.8 million given to them by the school's management for projects within the institution.

Patients beg FG to end doctors' strike on sick bed

Some patients affected by the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the resident doctors across the country have appealed to the Federal Government to resolve the doctors’ demands amicably to save their lives. They spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews on Wednesday in Lagos on the ongoing nationwide strike by the doctors. NAN reports that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had on Sept. 4 directed its members nationwide to embark on an indefinite strike to pressurise government to meet its demands.

Buhari returns from Sallah holiday, resumes duty

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday resumed official duties at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after Sallah break at his country home, Daura in Katsina State. While in Daura, the President performed the Eid prayers along with thousands of Muslims at the Eid ground on Friday. The President on Monday received associations of farmers, businessmen, youths, elders and politicians from Katsina State, where he assured them of his continuous commitment to serve the nation.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to the Federal Government and the National Assembly not to vote for the admission of Morocco into Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Mr Ayuba Wabba, the NLC’s President, gave the advise on Tuesday in Abuja at the workshop of Organisation of Trade Unions of West Africa (OTUWA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Gambia: Barrow govt. secretly awarded over $100million project to a Chinese contractor

President Adama Barrow has been issuing secret Executive Directives to award multi-million dollar contracts to business owners without any formal tender, leaks from the State House have intimated. One of the Executive Orders issued has authorized a Turkish firm to oversee a multi-million power project for the Gambia. A Chinese road contractor has also been awarded a contract to build the Banjul Ports. The contract is over $100 Million United States Dollars.   The Secretary General Dawda Fadera has asked the Gambia Ports Authority Management to work with the Chinese contractor for the facilitation of the Banjul ports project.  None of the aforementioned projects have been tendered .

Not less than 15 people die in Cross River flooding

Fifteen people have lost their lives in severe flooding in 21 communities in Cross River in July and August this year. The Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Mr John Inaku, made the disclosure while assessing the extent of damage in flooded areas in Calabar South on Monday. Four major streets in Calabar South, including Goldie, Target, Yellow-Duke, Ekpo-Abasi and others were heavily flooded after a down pour early on Monday.

Patience, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has recovered her N2bn hotel which was sealed off by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in June, The PUNCH has learnt. Lagos policemen collect N50,000 for bail, seize phone over N20,000 balance

Policemen attached to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Lagos State Police Command, have been accused of collecting N50,000 before granting bail to one Blessing Taiwo, who was arrested for alleged theft. Although the suspect was released on Saturday after the money was paid, the police allegedly seized her mobile phone pending when a balance of N20,000 would be paid on Tuesday. it was learnt that the suspect’s sister, Florence Taiwo, who always took food to her in the cell, was allegedly molested by the policemen who touched breasts and dipped hands into her private parts before allowing her to take the food into the cell.

Gunmen attack, abduct boat owner in Bayelsa

Unidentified gunmen have struck in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, abducting a local boat owner, Chief John Okotoro. The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday at Amatu II community of Ekeremor LGA. The abductors, who reportedly shot continuously, were said to have stormed the area through a jetty at about 4.30am. The gunmen were said to have shot at anyone in sight and looted goods before whisking away Okotoro.

‘Find masked men that demolished our buildings’ - Residents to Ambode

Residents of Lagoon View Estate, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos State, have lamented alleged illegal demolition of houses on the estate by masked men numbering about 60. The residents asked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to unmask the perpetrators and bring them to justice, saying the houses were demolished without any reason or litigation. They said the demolition was carried out on August 16, 2017, adding that property worth over N500m was pulled down by the masked men comprising security operatives in uniform and suspected thugs.

Three people in coma as bus collides with taxi in Abuja

Ten passengers were reported to have sustained injuries on Sunday in a motor accident at the Bolingo Junction Area 10, Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accident involved a commercial bus heading for Ilorin, Kwara State, and a taxi. Two of the victims, who spoke to NAN at the National Hospital, Abuja, where they were rushed to, said the accident occurred due to disregard for traffic rules by the driver of the bus. They said the driver of the bus which they boarded from Nyanya to Ilorin was at fault, as he did not obey the traffic lights.

Barely two weeks after the signing of six agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Federal Government has initiated moves to seize assets of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and four others in Dubai. The others are: a former Managing Director of the defunct  Oceanic Bank, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Sen. Bala Mohammed and his son, Shamsudeen. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced eight choice assets to Mrs. Ibru and two to the ex-Petroleum Minister.

Nigeria, South Africa likely out of recession - Report

Nigeria’s economy is out of recession, a report said yesterday. The economy broke out of a long slump in the second quarter with a median forecast for 1.55 per cent year-on-year growth, the Reuters report said. The report also shows that South Africa quit shrinking with 2.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter growth.  South Africa and Nigeria have a lot in common. They are Africa’s two biggest economies and are both making their ways out of recession.

A 35-year-old Estate agent, Francis Kulungu, has impregnated a 31-year-old seamstress, Salamatu Maka, who is the wife of his bosom friend, Danladi Funtuwa, a 38-year-old auto mechanic. Danladi and Salamatu got married in 2014, but have been experiencing fertility challenges ever since. Now Salamatu is carrying a three-month-old pregnancy for his best friend, Francis in Lafia, Nassarawa State.
